We transform our parking lot into a fun, family-friendly outdoor space (the Family Fun Zone is across from us) and we’ll even have the Birds game on. As one of the best Philadelphia attractions of the year, be sure to check out all that Old City has to offer at the festival.
Old City is one of Philadelphia’s hottest neighborhoods, and this Philadelphia attraction celebrates everything that makes it so amazing. The area is a popular art and design district, has some of the cities best restaurants and has become a hub for Philly’s tech scene as well. From 11am to 6pm on October 13th, you’ll be able to stroll through the area and check out local businesses, food, live music, and more. Best of all, the event has free admission, so you can go explore the area without spending a dime if you want.

One of the biggest Philadelphia attractions of this event is the food and drink. Philadelphia has an excellent culinary scene that will be on display here at the festival. You’ll be able to choose from over 20 different cuisine options, so there’s something for every taste. For those over 21, you’ll also be able to imbibe in local beers, wine, and other alcoholic beverages. Most of the food vendors are local businesses with a huge following.
Of course, you’ll be able to pick up plenty of great pieces for your home at Grossman’s Furniture, but you’ll also be able to browse through plenty of artisan shops and booths to pick up one-of-a-kind items. Local fashion designers and craftsmen set up their booths here, and you’ll find pieces that are both stylish and unique. There are also plenty of galleries and boutiques located in this area that you can meander in and out of. One of the most exciting shopping sections of Old City Fest is Independents Row, which is put together by the Philadelphia Independents organization and features ceramicists, jewelry makers, candlemakers, and so much more.
With so many galleries in the area, it’s easy to wander around and check out a great selection of exhibits. If you love art, you’ll love the excitement and stimulation of browsing the city’s best work. One of the most exciting exhibits is the Style Exhibit Fashion Show. This live fashion show presents pieces from Old City’s best boutiques, with hair and makeup by local salons. There’s a live interactive photoshoot where you can get your photo taken on the runway. There are so many Instagrammable moments to be had throughout the event, so be sure to come camera-ready. One of the other photo ops at the festival is the Team USA Journey. This Philadelphia attraction will feature many of Team USA’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes and captures the bold spirit of the games. If you love sports, be sure to check out this event and snap some pics.
Arguably one of the most exciting parts of the festival is the live music and performances. Old City Fest sets up the main stage with live music in many different genres throughout the festival. However, there are also pop-up performances at other points throughout the festival. There’s so much local talent in Philadelphia, and this festival pulls all of that energy together. There’s even improvisational music and dance performances by the Impermanent Society of Philadelphia. These thought-provoking performances are a must-see, toeing the line between art and entertainment.
If you will be visiting the festival with children, there’s plenty for your family to do together. The festival sets up a Family Fun Zone, which features performances throughout the day that are appropriate for kids. These include the Give & Take Juggler’s Funicular Circus, a thrilling local circus group. There are also plenty of activities for kids that incorporate Philadelphia’s rich history. For example, you can visit the Betsy Ross house for a demonstration of colonial chocolate making, and sample some of the products in the process. This demonstration is put on by American Heritage Chocolate. There will be plenty of other fun activities as well – past festivals have featured mini golf and Revolutionary War trivia.
Admission to the festival and many of the Philadelphia attractions inside it are free. However, food and drinks do cost money on a pay-as-you-go basis. Luckily, many of the food and shopping vendors offer affordable options. Getting to Old City Philadelphia is also very easy. The SEPTA’s Market-Frankford line goes directly to Old City and is a great way to get there. The train runs between Frankford and 69th Street and connects to most of SEPTA’s other train, trolley, and bus lines. If you can walk or bike, those are also good options, or you can use a rideshare app. If you do decide to drive, keep in mind that parking will be very limited and many streets will be closed. Getting there early is the best way to snag one of the available parking spots. For those taking rideshare, keep in mind that surge pricing may apply due to the popularity of the festival.
This is one of the most exciting fall events in Philadelphia, and it’s not one to be missed. There’s a little something for everyone here, with Philadelphia’s history, culture, and food all in one place. While you’re at it, be sure to come into Grossman Furniture and check out our incredible selection of furniture brands. As one of Philadelphia’s oldest furniture retailers, we’re proud to consider ourselves a true part of the neighborhood, and we want you to come to celebrate with us.
