Founded in 1990 by a small team of engineers, American Leather has become one of the USA’s top providers of customized furniture. In this spotlight on American Leather, we explore the company’s history, principles, and sustainability practices and explain how you can incorporate a piece designed and made by American Leather into your home.

History

On average, it can take three months for a customized piece of furniture to arrive at your door. American Leather was created on the belief that this is too long for you to wait for a piece of customized furniture. In 1990 Bob Duncan took it upon himself to address this issue and put together a team of four engineers with the express goal of creating a furniture company that could ship out custom pieces in 3 weeks or less. In doing so, he changed the industry forever.

Their success led to internal growth. The company now has more than 600 employees housed in their Dallas, Texas, state-of-the-art 35000-square-foot factory. Their furniture is sold in over 650 stores across the country, and they continue to make great strides in the industry.

Principles

American Leather‘s founder believes that their success is measured by their innovation, creativity, and design prowess. The company’s expert craftsmanship is unmatched, and their technological advances are truly remarkable. Every product created by this brand is made with intense attention to detail because they are committed to building furniture that is made to last. The company is dedicated to maintaining US manufacturing jobs and enhancing their current employees’ quality of life.

Sustainability

American Leather understands the importance of sustainability in the furniture industry. They are committed to making their products and manufacturing operations environmentally friendly. American Leather is a founding member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council. The organization’s goal is to help companies adopt eco-friendly practices and raise awareness of the importance of sustainability within the furniture industry. American Leather itself has also partnered with American Forest to help with the replanting of our forests. Since 2014 the company has replanted over 19,000 trees.

The leather used in their pieces is environmentally friendly, and the wood for their frames is harvested from sustainable forests. Even their pillows can be recycled. There isn’t a reason not to shop with American Leather.

Products

The sky is the limit when you commission a piece with American Leather. Whether it’s the durable frame construction, hand-applied finishes, or custom leather upholstery, each component is crafted using the exact measurements you provide so the piece can fit your space flawlessly. Elevate your living room with a stunning sofa or a sleek sectional. Or order a made to measure bed frame and complete the look of your bedroom with a unique custom headboard.

We carry American Leather furniture in our Philadelphia showroom. Visit our furniture store today and let one of our experienced design staff work with you to find a piece that is perfect for your home.
