As we continue to move forward through these uncertain times, we wanted to take a second to pause and to let everyone know how things are going in our showroom. Our main priority continues to be the health and safety of our customers and our team. While our showroom is closed in accordance with the City of Philadelphia’s emergency declaration, we have implemented a “Virtual Shopping” Experience to make it as easy as possible for you to shop for high-quality furniture and decor from the comfort of your home.
We are available online, so you can still shop local and order through our website. Our team is ready to work with you and answer any questions you may have via chat, phone call, or email. You can even send us a picture of what your dream room will look like and we can help you put it together, digitally.

Moving to a more big-picture viewpoint, the effects of Covid-19 will be far-reaching and hard to access, likely for years to come. We do know that it has already had a huge impact on design – namely by putting an end to minimalist design. Just a month ago or so, our homes were mostly places where we slept, ate, and watched TV. Now, it is our office, our gym, our school, and more. With that, our homes have shifted away from being mostly aesthetic, and to much more functionality and usability.
While some would argue that minimalism was on the out at the beginning of 2020, quarantine has certainly accelerated the change. No longer are people looking at the clean, white lines of celebrity homes and wishing to be there, instead, we feel a disconnect from these places of luxury. As we continue to move towards the summer months, we expect to continue to see a swing towards maximalism, eventually settling on a balanced midpoint. No one wants to live in a space so minimal that it feels like a museum, but also, no one wants to have so much clutter that they feel anxiety.
This all culminates in the overall trend that people want to create cozy and personal spaces in their homes. They will want to live in a place that truly feels like theirs, while maintaining a sense of organization. Since we are spending 24 hours a day in our homes, the vibe and design choices that we make are in our faces at all hours of the day. Eventually, something will have to give. We are expecting more custom furniture, more accessories and artwork, and more pieces that showcase the individual’s personality.
On the flip side, we expect to see the home office take a different turn. Since we are spending much more time working from home, people will need a clear disconnect between work life and home life, so the home office will take on a more formal feel.

So what does all this mean? You can and should feel comfortable putting items out that bring you positive energy and joy. Family photos, souvenirs from trips in the past, buying plush blankets you can leave around the house, etc. There is also ample opportunity to improve the lighting in your home. Think about Air BnBs or hotels you have stayed at where you really appreciated the lighting as soon as you walked in. Try different ideas, such as trying out different light bulbs, different fixtures, etc, to change up the atmosphere of your home.
As we move forward during these times, remember that Grossman Furniture is here for you. If you have any questions regarding your home’s design, lighting, or anything else, feel free to reach out to us on our website. We hope everyone stays healthy and stays safe.
