Product Description: Romantic Figures 2 is a series of six playful prints reminiscent of illustrated playing cards. The series is a delightful mash-up of early synthetic Cubist sentiments and bold German Expressionist figures. Synthetic Cubism of the early 20th century began to blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture by offering a new understanding of the pictorial surface. During the same time, German Expressionism broke away from traditional norms of representing the human figure.
Romantic Figures 2 wonderfully embraces both artistic movements. This works features a regal raven-haired queen crowned with an expressive tiara. The scene is set in large swathes of dense charcoal brushstrokes distinguished by the queen’s royal robes in moss green and gold that convey her power.
